Savannah’s reaction was quite unexpected but even so Diana couldn’t help but chuckle. She certainly seemed joyful of her new office and the way her cheeks turned red was pretty cute. Diana gave the young officer a warm smile. “You really weren’t expecting one? Every officer here in Nexus gets one! Think of it as a…welcoming gift.” Adjusting her glasses, the captain walked towards the single gray cabinet near the desk. “Of course this doesn’t mean that you’ll get to spend your days here relaxing.” 

Her tone became serious. “Usually we do paperwork around here. This cabinet here,” she pointed “is where all the files are stored until either of the higher ranks ask for them.”

The Growlithe returned her Captain’s smile with one of her own, running her fingertips across the smooth surface of the small desk. “In Kagoshima I shared an office with two of my brothers.” She bit her lip; as much as she complained about having no privacy from her brothers, she still missed them. Even though it had hardly been a couple of days since she left.

“Oh! Of course, there’s no question.” Savannah nodded, snapping out of her reverie. “You can count on me to do my job with the utmost efficiency, Captain.” There was no doubt that the young officer was one of the most dutiful rookies in the force.

Charming, Diana thought as she watched the young Growlithe shake in excitement. She nodded and motioned for Savannah to follow her, rounding the corners of the headquarters. “I’m sure you’ll be able to get the gist of this place.” Diana smiled at the young girl and opened the door to the officers new office. “This is your office. It’s a bit small as you can see but it’s still comfortable enough to move around.”

As she followed Diana through the headquarters, offering each officer she passed a friendly smile, she judged that she liked Nexus, so far. The headquarters was marginally larger than the one she had just transferred from, and as for her Captain, she decided that she liked her, as well. She had a kind demeanor about her, and she was rather pretty, as well. Savannah was glad to have a strong female figure to look up to.

When the pair reached a door, which Diana promptly opened, the Growlithe’s lips parted in mild shock. In Kagoshima she had shared an office with two of her older brothers—a fact that, while she loved them both very much, had been an incredible inconvenience to her. The thought of having a private office to herself was a breath of fresh air, despite the small size. “This is—I mean, I…”  her ivory cheeks flushed deep scarlet in embarrassment as she stumbled for words. She quickly straightened her posture. “T-Thank you, Captain. I apologize for my reaction, I… wasn’t expecting an office of my own.”

“Oh you did?” She raised her brow. “Well then since you just got here, then perhaps I may show you around. After all every new officer needs to know where everything is. You need to know the rules too!”

“Yes, Captain.” She was careful not to skip out on the formalities; first impressions were always the most important, after all. “You’re going to show me around?” Her trained poise suddenly gave way to excitement; if she could make a good impression on the boss this early in the game, a promotion was sure to follow soon! The corners of her lips curled up slightly and there was a restrained wag to her tail as she struggled to regain her composure. “I-I mean, of course, Captain. I’m eager to learn how things work around here.”

After a long and nerve-wracking bus ride, Savannah had finally made it to her new headquarters in Nexus. She had spoken to the secretary at the front desk, who welcomed her quite callously and asked her to wait. Slightly flustered, but too polite to say anything, the young growlithe complied quietly and proceeded to look at the framed pictures and plaques that adorned the walls. She had only been standing around for a few minutes before she heard a voice behind her, causing her to turn and face her new commanding officer.

“Captain Cozak!” Savannah stood at perfect attention, a bit nervous at the sudden and unannounced presence of her Captain. “No, Captain, in fact I just got here a few minutes ago…”

Even her smile was absolutely adorable. He chuckled and he sat down on the bench again, just watching her cute mannerisms. He quickly nodded when she mentioned that she would like some company and he was happy to make some room for her on the seat. “Of course! It’s dangerous for a girl to be alone out here. I’ll protect you!” He nodded his head and looked at her tail, it was so bushy and fluffy. He wanted to touch it so badly, all he had was a little stub.

She took a seat beside him, laughing at the next thing he said. She shook her head; well, it was only natural, she supposed. Her entire life she had been protected by her brothers and, of course, her father. It seemed almost natural that another male would be so keen on wanting to protect her, but now that she was going to be on her own for a while things were going to change. “I can take care of myself, you know.” she responded to him with a playful tone in her voice. “I’m pretty tough, too.”

She swung her feet back and forth, looking up at the sky for a brief moment before turning back to him. Well, while they had a few minutes to kill they may as well get to know each other a little bit. “So what do you do, Keane?”

He took a closer look at her and he couldn’t help but blush, she was a fine female canine. Curvy but also petite as well, his eyes went from her chest to her hips and his heart jumped a little bit. His ears stood straight up, she got his attention and he heard her sweet voice. “Savannah? H-Hi! I-I’m… Keane!” His ears were wiggling from side to side, he was excited and jumpy. It’s been a while since he talked to a cute girl and his boss isn’t around to ruin it for him.

“N-Not really… I was just sitting here.” He fixed his goggles to hide his deep scarlet blush.

Savannah tilted her head to the side as she watched his demeanor change suddenly; his ears were twitching and wiggling every which direction. It was quite a sight, and she couldn’t help but giggle softly at the display. “Keane… That’s a unique name. Nice to meet you, Keane.” Her smile widened into a friendly grin, her sharp canines glistening in the sun.

“Oh, well…” She looked up at the clocktower across the street; her bus would be here in a few minutes if it arrived on time. “Would you mind if I kept you company for a little while? I’m hopping the next bus to Nexus.” She placed her duffel bag on the ground, her bushy tail wagging happily. That was just the way the growlithe was; she just didn’t know any strangers.

His ears twitched as he heard something drop on the ground besides him. He looked down and there he saw a girl, a very cute girl in fact! Tonight was his lucky night, his ears wiggled and he dropped down beside her, helping her pick up her things. She was so cute when she blushed and a big goofy grin spread across his face. “It’s no problem! Here, let me help.” He put her things gently back in her duffel bag and he picked her back up with one hand. “There you go.” A toothy grin emerged, he’d do anything to help a cute girl. It was just his style.

“Thanks…” she muttered, a small smile beginning to form on her lips. She was glad that the Lucario wasn’t angry with her. Well, now that she had thoroughly made herself look stupid, she decided to go ahead and introduce herself. “I’m Savannah, by the way. What’s your name?” Her ears perked with interest and there was a slight wag to her tail. The growlithe had always been friendly, even for her species, and she loved meeting new people.

She had to admit that he looked quite interesting. With his gloves and clothing, he looked like a well-seasoned fighter; the goggles were a nice touch, as well. “Are you waiting for the bus?”

The young growlithe stood outside of the Kagoshima Police Headquarters, looking wistfully up at the building for probably the last time in a long time. She had finally turned in all her transfer paperwork, and said her farewells-until-next-time to her brothers, bosses, and…

Fear wasn’t a familiar feeling to the young officer, which must have been why it took her such a long time to identify it as she walked along the sidewalk, staring at her feet as she trudged along. She was afraid, she realized, of being alone; she had never been to Nexus on her own before, and now here she was, going to live in a foreign city without any of her brothers or her father to protect her. Bravery was a trait that many of her friends and family were quick to pin on her, but now she wasn’t so sure about that; she didn’t feel brave at all.

Suddenly, she stumbled as her foot got caught on something near the ground; she nearly lost her balance completely and fell, but luckily she managed to right herself, turning around to see what she had tripped over. Her fair skin flushed violently as she realized that she had tripped over someone’s foot; a Lucario’s, she noted upon further inspection.

“Oh! I-I’m so sorry, I hope I didn’t hurt you…” her scarlet cheeks got darker and darker as she fumbled with the strap of her duffel bag. This was so embarrassing. She wasn’t usually this clumsy, but she had let her mind wander too far from her. “I wasn’t paying attention and— I-I-I’m sorry.” She continued to stammer and blush, giving the Lucario a never-ending string of apologies.

The young growlithe stood outside of the Kagoshima Police Headquarters, looking wistfully up at the building for probably the last time in a long time. Although Savannah had been looking forward to this for quite some time, she couldn’t shake the sinking feeling in her gut as she gazed around her. This was her home, the city she grew up in; she hadn’t even left yet, and she was already feeling homesick. Heaving a sigh and shouldering her overstuffed duffel bag, she forced her feet to carry her away from her spot in front of the headquarters in case her brothers or anyone else saw her standing there; the last thing she needed was more torment. That was the reason she had decided to move on, after all. Before she turned the corner on her way to her bus stop, she looked back at the building one last time.
